Skritter is Hiring: Remote Scholar

In Uncategorized by Skritter

author photoWant to work part-time from anywhere in the world while helping to curate the ever-expanding Skritter content database, helping Skritter users with their questions, and enjoying massive work flexibility? You should work for Skritter. Chris is moving on to his next adventure after 2.5 years of overseeing our Chinese corpus, during which time he wrote a novel and a manga series, hacked biotechnology, climbed mountains, surfed beaches, and lived in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Yangshuo. If you’re hungry for China adventure and don’t want to teach English, then become Skritter’s new Remote Scholar.

We estimate that you’d have somewhere around 20-25 hours per week split between missions such as:

  • Responding to all kinds of emails from Skritter users
  • Researching definition and reading corrections to Chinese characters and words using the Baller
  • Researching corrections to our simplified/traditional mappings
  • Fixing character decompositions
  • Fixing Chinese and Japanese stroke orders using the Chef
  • Getting rid of bogus audio files
  • Writing replacements for mangled example sentences
  • Curating our Chinese and Japanese textbook lists
  • Meeting with us on Google Hangout once a week or so
  • Anything else you want to do to make Skritter rock

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Writes excellently and friendlily in English
  • Reads Chinese decently
  • Likes language research
  • Works quickly to process tons of input
  • Has enough patience to handle said tons of input
  • Uses Skritter
  • Loves freedom

Most of our corrections have to do with Chinese, but any Japanese interest or proficiency would come in handy. We’re not interested in hiring for the short-term. You’ll be paid $15 per hour, starting as soon as is convenient.

To apply, send an email to nick@skritter.com and let us know why you’re the right person for the job. You can attach a resume or provide any other information if you want. We’ll do Google Hangout interviews with qualified candidates. This isn’t a formal process; we’re a laid-back operation, so don’t stress out about it. We’ll process applications on a rolling basis and will update this post when we’ve hired someone. Feel free to pass this on to friends who may be interested.

Update: we have decided. Stay tuned.
