Every time we run a learning challenge and dish out prizes, we have one or two people ask us why they can’t buy their own Skritter gear. For the last few years, we have answered that a store would probably lose money for us, we didn’t want to over-commercialize our creation, and we also wanted to keep the prizes more exclusive.
However, during the most recent challenge, Nick, Scott, and I got to talking about the fact this again and decided that it was time to open the store to the public. What has changed? Mainly that we need to stop running contests for a while until we build a better rewards system for the site. Without contests, there will be no way for anyone to get any Skritter gear, and that rather defeats the purpose of having the store in the first place.
It is a little known fact that the Skritter store has never actually been closed. Rather, it has simply languished in intentional obscurity over on CafePress. If you had done a quick Google search for “Skritter” and “CafePress” you would have pulled up the store and been able to order anything you please.
But from here on out, the store will languish no more. You can visit it by clicking on the new Store link on the homepage. We are selling items at near-cost so that you can get your Skritter fix for as little as possible!
Right now the store is only provisioned with the swag that contest winners have specifically requested in past contests, so there are obvious holes in the offerings (there is no Classic Skritter Sigg bottle, for instance). If you would like a certain Skritter design or product, or combination of the two, let us know. Items that get more than a few requests will get added to the store!
I bet you didn’t know, but we have quite a selection of Skritter logo designs that can be put on products:
By the way, we’re sending out the Skritter July Newsletter (China link). Check it out!
