author photoWe’re moving! Not too far though. As many of you know Google App Engine has had its fair share of instability and server slow downs, giving us all too often spotty uptime. But recently they introduced a major change to their system to try and combat that. It’s a new database, a highly replicated one, which is much more stable than their standard setup. From what we’ve heard, this is a major improvement, and the App Engine team has fully gotten behind it, making it the default choice for new applications and encouraging all us older apps to migrate.

What this means though is that we have to move a massive amount of data from our old application to our new one. And to do that, we have to turn off write access while it’s going on. So the site will be unavailable starting at 7:00 AM Eastern US time, when we’ll begin the migration. Plan for the site to be down for 24 hours, though of course Skritter will return to full power as soon as it’s ready and able. And everyone who is paying will receive an extra day to their account to make up for the lost time.

Thanks everyone for your patience!
