The Skritter community has come a long way since our site launched more than two years ago. The heart of the community, the forum, is always buzzing with language learning advice, discussions on how to make the site better, and many other topics (and maybe some bug reports). We haven’t done a lot to add more community features besides that, focusing instead on our core features, but we have a lot planned for the future. Today, we’re releasing profiles, the first of several community features to come.
It’s pretty straight forward. In the forum or anywhere else you find someone’s user name, you can now click on it and see information about them, including when they joined, what country they hail from, and a little about their progress. In addition, you can search forum posts by the given person by clicking the “Posts” tab inside their profile.
Along with all this information, you can enter some information about yourself in the new “About Me” text. We considered having multiple fields for people to fill out, but we think a freeform option is better. You can put anything you want in there, such as a description of yourself, your website, your twitter account, or whatever else you want to share with the community. Remember that what you put in there is public!
If you prefer to not share any of your information, you can also opt out by turning on the private account option in your settings. This will hide the handful of details Skritter shows by default, and will keep your information out of future community based features, such as the upcoming leaderboards. Anything you write in the About Me profile will still show up though.
If you want to see your own public profile, you can do so by going to your account and clicking ‘public profile’ on the right side.
